Swissgrid is the national grid company, and in its capacity as transmission system operator it ensures the secure, reliable and cost-effective operation of the Swiss high-voltage grid.

Swissgrid employs around 300 highly qualified people from twelve countries at its sites in Laufenburg and Frick.

As a member of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), it is also responsible for coordination and grid usage in the cross-border exchange of electricity in Europe.

Swissgrid is wholly owned by the eight Swiss electricity companies Alpiq AG, Alpiq Suisse SA, Axpo AG, BKW FMB Energie AG, CKW AG, EGL AG, Stadt Zürich ewz and Repower.
